Lord Leycester Hospital

Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick was created as a home to the Guild of the Holy Trinity and St George which was formed in 1383 to help with education and charity. The site was restored in the 1950s and 60s and the hospital was opened after its restoration by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, on 3 November 1966.

The historic group of buildings that now comprise the Hospital is now dominated by the ancient Chantry Chapel of St James, built over the West Gate into Warwick by Thomas Beauchamp, 12th Earl of Warwick, in the latter half of the 14th Century. Today, eight ex-servicemen and their wives live in modernised flats and in return give their services towards the running of the Hospital. The building is so eye-catching and rich with history that it has been used in a number of television films, including Pride and Prejudice, Tom Jones and Moll Flanders.

Other sights here include the Master's Garden, restored in the past few years, and the Museum of the Queen's Own Hussars inside the hospital, which is a remarkable collection of militaria in an intimate and quirky museum. The hospital's tea room is also gathering a reputation as one of the best places in Warwick for lunch or afternoon tea.
