Tucked away in a secluded valley in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales, Atlow has been the site of a mill for more than 1000 years. But now, instead of grinding wheat into flour, it opens its doors to those who are seeking new ways of dealing with the challenges of life.
Popular weekend courses at Atlow Mill include Healing the Wounds of Childhood, Creative Anger and Intimate Connections - tackling fear, anger and emotional ties that bind. The fact that most get booked up well in advance must be some testament to their success. Individual therapy sessions are possible too.
All those working at Atlow Mill (which is now a charity) have expertise in the area of "emotional literacy". They are "committed to contributing to the development of peaceful resolution of conflict in the world so that children no longer experience abuse, neglect and parental hostility and therefore grow up in an emotionally healthy environment".
There are other ways to enjoy the centre too - as a working community, it offers a free stay in exchange for work around the house - please visit their website to find out more.
