A Day at York Races

York Racecourse (aka The Knavesmire) hosts regular flat and National Hunt races from May to October. A day out here is an excuse to dress up, have a flutter and generally enjoy yourself.

Gentlemen heading for the County Stand are expected to turn up in a jacket and tie and many ladies wear hats, although it is not compulsory. Other stands are more relaxed and you can wear what you like. To pick a winner, listen to the "punters panel" held at 1.15pm every race day for some clues.

York is a left-handed racecourse. It has a flat, U-shaped track with a two-mile start at the bottom of Knavesmire. Racing has taken place here since 1731. Please check the website for dates of races.
