The North East of England's rich canine heritage is reflected in Darlington Championship Dog Show, which caters for all people interested in the world of pedigree dogs. Since 2005 the show has been held at Newby Hall, near Ripon.
There have been dog shows in Darlington since 1860 and the show's previous venue, South Park, was used for the first time in 1891 until 2005 when the show moved due to refurbishment of South Park. Each year a team of some 150 world-renowned judges has the mammoth task of examining up to 10,000 dogs in more than 2013 classes.
All the breeds we know and love will be there, along with many interesting new breeds seldom seen by the general public, such as the Segugio Italiano, Kookerhundje and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.
For the general public the show is a great day out with an opportunity to shop at the huge number of trade stands selling goods with a canine theme.
