The Jorvik Viking Centre offers plenty of Viking history on the very site where archaeologists discovered the remains of the city of Jorvik, now known as York.
At least 800 of the items found during the archaeological dig are on display here. The main highlight, however, is a reconstruction of York in the year AD 975, complete with the sights, sounds and smells of the Viking-Age. A hands-on exhibition reveals the artistic skills and craftsmanship of the Viking Age, with a changing programme of themes, from fashion to leatherworking.
