THE ENGLISH RIVIERA

The English Riviera spans Torquay, Paignton and Brixham towns, and thanks to the warm climate and stunning scenery Torbay makes the ideal place to take time out. The area has produced a number of famous names including Agatha Christie, and the hotel has welcomed many famous visitors including Benjamin Disraeli and Napoleon III.

The coastal waters have seen some dramatic events such as the capturing of a Spanish Armada ship by Sir Francis Drake in 1588, and the hosting of fleets of ships during the Napoleonic Wars.

Torquay town centre has shops and cafes along with a host of entertaining seaside attractions. Just around the corner from the hotel is an area that has been designated a future wildlife and conservation area plus a quaint harbour home to private yachts.

The Torbay Maritime Festival takes place over the May Spring bank holiday weekend and includes a whole host of demostrations, exhibitions, chance to tour a cruise ship and watch a powerboat extravaganza.

With 22 miles of coastline, beaches and cliffs, the area has miles of scenic walks for all abilities. Additionally there are lots of activities to keep young or mature entertained including Babbacombe Model Village, Kents Cavern or Bygones Victorian Museum.  A short drive from Torquay is Paignton with its sandy beaches and further west you'll find Plymouth. Alternatively try Dartmoor National Park, it's also within easy reach and is home to a wildlife park, castles and Gorse Blossom Railway Park.
